Vor einigen Tagen war silbaerg beim Composites United Innovation Day. Die Veranstaltung mit dem Titel „Composites in Sports Equipment“ fand bei der FES in Berlin statt. Dort haben wir mit unseren Kollegen der Professur Textile Technologien der Technischen Universität Chemnitz über biobasierte Sportgeräte gesprochen.
Zusammen mit Paul Baudach von der Professur Textile Technologien haben wir einen Vortrag beim Composites United Innovation Day über den Einsatz von biobasierten Kunststoffen in Sportgeräten gehalten. Dabei ging es, um den Einsatz von Flachsfasern und biobasierten Harzsystemen in Snowboards. Unser Resümee ist, dass derzeit die biobasierten Verstärkungsfasern noch zu teuer sind. Auch müssen die mechanischen Eigenschaft für den Einsatz in unseren premium Snowboards noch etwas verbessert werden. Deshalb forschen wir weiter an dem Thema…
Wir forschen aber weiter an dem Thema und werden ein Flachs- oder Handfaser-Snowboard auf dem Markt bringen, sobald es preislich sinnvoll ist. Bis dahin Verwenden wir weiterhin Glas- und Carbonfasern. Wir reduzieren stetig den Abfall in der Produktion und verwenden biobasierte Harzsysteme. Außerdem halten wir die Lieferketten kurz, um C02 einzusparen.
Neben unserem Vortag gab es spannende Einblicke in die Arbeit der FES und des Composite United. Außerdem hatten wir noch sehr viele gute Gespräche mit einem Ausblick auf weitere Themen. Ein Beispiel hierfür, ist eine Podcast-Folge von „Die Feder“ über den Einsatz von biobasierten Composites in Snowboards, welche in den kommenden Tagen aufgezeichnet wird.
Alles in Allem war es ein fantastischer Tag in Berlin und wir freuen uns schau auf eine Fortsetzung mit silbaerg beim Composite United Innovation Day.

A few days ago silbaerg was at the Composites United Innovation Day. The event entitled „Composites in Sports Equipment“ took place at the FES in Berlin. There we talked about bio-based sports equipment with our colleagues from the Chair of Textile Technologies at Chemnitz University of Technology.
Together with Paul Baudach from the Chair of Textile Technologies we gave a presentation at the Composites United Innovation Day about the use of bio-based plastics in sports equipment. The topic was the use of flax fibers and biobased resin systems in snowboards. Our summary is that currently the bio-based reinforcement fibers are still too expensive. Also, the mechanical properties for use in our premium snowboards still need to be improved somewhat. Therefore, we continue to research the topic…
However, we are continuing to research the topic and will bring a flax or hand fiber snowboard to market as soon as it makes sense price-wise. Until then, we will continue to use glass and carbon fibers. We are steadily reducing waste in production and using bio-based resin systems. We also keep supply chains short to save C02.
In addition to our presentation, there were exciting insights into the work of FES and Composite United. We also had a lot more good conversations with an outlook on further topics. One example of this, is a podcast episode of „The Feather“ about the use of bio-based composites in snowboards, which will be recorded in the coming days.
All in all it was a fantastic day in Berlin and we are looking forward to a continuation with silbaerg at the Composite United Innovation Day.
